Job Description Certification Details - LMSW Job Details -
Provide social services to patients and their families at OU Health
under general supervision. - Conduct discharge planning evaluations
of patients and/or family members to gather needed information. -
Make psychosocial assessments and communicate findings to necessary
hospital staff. - Counsel patients and others regarding diseases,
treatments, social or financial situations, emotional stress, and
other problems. - Conduct high social risk case findings and
provide crisis counseling regarding child abuse, neglect, physical
abuse, etc., and document these sessions. - Provide crisis
intervention services for patients and families. - Act as a liaison
between patients/families and hospital staff and other agencies. -
Evaluate effectiveness of services provided and adjust patient care
as indicated. - Assist in discharge planning and referrals to
community services. - Assist patients and families with
post-hospital placement or transfer to post-acute care facilities.
- Assist patients and families with adverse reactions or difficult
adjustments to illness, treatment, or changes in functional status.
- Utilize specialized interviewing and communication skills with
children. - Act as a patient advocate for informed decision making,
end-of-life care, goal setting, and ethical dilemmas. - May prepare
statistics concerning referrals, extended stay, and other elements.
- May supervise students or newly hired employees. - Perform other
duties as assigned. Job Requirements - Hospital experience
preferred. - Knowledge of principles and practices of social and
psychological casework. - Knowledge of social and welfare resources
available in the community and hospital. - Knowledge of current
social and economic conditions, trends, and problems. - Analytical
skills to interpret situations and determine appropriate course of
action. - Ability to explain technical data in understandable form
to patients, families, and hospital staff. - Good interpersonal
skills. - Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited school.
- LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) strongly preferred.
