join our Inspection team. In this role, you will be responsible for
ensuring project compliance with contract documents and applicable
regulations/codes throughout the construction process. This is a
fantastic opportunity for someone with 5+ years of experience
(municipal utility plant and/or KDOT transportation inspection
experience preferred) in our Wichita Field Services Office location
or the Dodge City, Kansas area to make a significant impact and
grow their career with us.Position Summary: The Inspector position
will perform construction inspection services on various types of
construction projects to ensure project compliance with contract
documents and applicable regulations/codes. Inspection projects
involve various types of construction including site civil land
developments, roadways, bridges, airport infrastructure, grading,
asphalt/concrete paving, underground utilities, water/wastewater
treatment plants, storm drainage, intersection improvements,
sidewalks, multi-use pathways, traffic signals, etc. Inspection
projects may include other components within the disciplines of
architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental,
and/or industrial, etc. Inspection projects may include new
construction work, maintenance work, rehab work, renovation work,
and/or repair work for various types of clients including
municipalities, State DOTs, airports, turnpike associations,
private developers, private corporations, etc.Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Review project plans, specifications, contract documents,
approved submittals and shop drawings, geo-tech reports and any
other applicable project reporting prior to start of construction
to gain clear understanding of project
- Ensure all materials and equipment being incorporated into the
project have an approved submittal or shop drawing prior to being
installed on project
- Monitor and ensure that project construction activities are
being performed, and materials/equipment being incorporated into
the project are compliant with the project plans, specifications,
contract documents, approved submittals & shop drawings, geo-tech
reports, and applicable regulations/codes
- Notify the contractor and Project Engineer or Project Manager
of non-conforming work
- Prepare and maintain daily inspection reports, utilizing
established reporting format, for the construction activities
inspected
- Prepare and maintain weekly inspection summary reports,
utilizing established reporting formats, for the week's
construction progress on the project
- Measure and track completed quantities and installed pay items,
utilizing established tracking methods (including Excel spreadsheet
templates) or creating quantity tracking methods or Excel
spreadsheets as necessary. Perform computations with formulas, plot
data and draw simple curves/graphs as necessary. Verify plan
quantities
- Track and document contractor contract time through established
reporting format
- Take photographs (pre-construction, during construction,
post-construction) of the project construction progress, site
conditions, installed materials/equipment to create a chronological
documented visual history of the project
- Ensure onsite materials testing is scheduled, observe onsite
materials testing, ensure onsite materials testing is compliant
with the project specifications, and ensure material testing
results/reports are distributed to the applicable project team
members, as determined by the Project Engineer or Project Manager.
Perform field material testing and sample collection when
necessary
- Produce redline drawings by tracking/logging redline changes on
electronic set of plans
- Review Contractor pay estimates to verify quantities match
Inspector's summary of quantities log
- Attend construction project meetings including but not limited
to the pre-construction meeting, progress meetings, safety
meetings, substantial/final completion walk-through meetings, other
meetings as determined by the Project Engineer or Project
Manager
- Produce and maintain punch lists of remaining and/or deficient
work on the project
- Utilize an established electronic filing system and project
folder tree to save and maintain all inspection project records and
reports
- Ensure that Inspection Quality Control Checks are completed on
each project per the established Inspection Quality Procedures
- May assist other PEC Team Members in the field, while
performing project related services such surveying, geotechnical
soil and materials investigations, etc.
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the
company's discretionKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of methods, practices, principles and techniques of
engineering disciplines (civil, architectural, structural,
mechanical, electrical, environmental, industrial, etc.) and field
engineering services (inspection, field/lab materials testing,
survey, geotechnical engineering, construction management)
pertaining to construction inspection projects
- Knowledge of city/state/federal codes, ordinances, and
regulations pertaining to construction inspection projects
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and PDF
Editor (Bluebeam)
- Proficiency in using computers, tablets, and cell phones
- Proficiency in using construction inspection tools (measuring
wheel, measuring tape, levels, etc.); Knowledge of GPS data
collectors, laser levels, range finders preferred
- Skill in developing/maintaining cooperative and professional
working relationships with team members, managers, clients, public,
etc.
- Skill in performing quality control initiatives and taking
prompt action for problem resolution
- Communication (written & oral): Ability to communicate clearly
and effectively; Ability to listen and understand directions,
information, and ideas when presented by others; Ability to handle
a variety of issues with tact, diplomacy and in a confidential
manner
- Ability to plan/organize daily work routine and to establish
priorities for the completion of required work within required
timeframes
- Ability to work 50+ hours per week, including nights and
weekends when necessary
- Ability and willingness to accept occasional out-of-town
projects if neededEducation and Experience:
- Current/Valid Driver's License required
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree or higher
required
- An A.S., B.S. or B.A. degree in an appropriate
construction-related, technical, or engineering field,
preferred
- Experience in field construction inspection or demonstrated
equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in
a related construction, technical, or engineering field, preferred
License and Certification:
- The following KDOT CIT certifications are preferred: Basic
Inspection (BI), Asphalt Paving Inspection (API), Concrete Paving
Inspection (CPI), Structures Inspection (STR), Nuclear Gauge (NUC),
American Concrete Institute Concrete Field Tester (ACI CF), and
Construction Storm Water (CSWWork Environment: PEC values a healthy

primarily outdoors and occasionally inside buildings or other
structures that may include exposure to inclement weather, heat,
humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, bodies of water,
moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, fumes or airborne
particles, toxic or caustic waste depending on project
requirements. The position requires mobility. Duties involved
require moving materials that weigh up to 10-35 pounds on a regular
basis, occasionally moving materials that weigh up to 50-75 pounds,
and carrying up to 25 pounds over rough terrain for 100 yards.
Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work
period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse,
calculator and similar machines. There will be frequent, talking,
hearing, standing, moving, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching,
crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, balancing,
coordination, sitting, and operating a company vehicle.
