The RN has multiple roles and functions including care-giver,
decision-maker, client advocate, manager, rehabilitator, comforter,
communicator, and teacher. The functions include assessment of the
nursing needs of the patient, initiation of the plan of care of
nurse action, implementation of the plan of care and the evaluation
of the process, by use of the nursing process. The Standards of
Practice set forth by the professional nursing associations provide
guidelines for the competent, safe and professional practice. The
RN promotes the dignity and quality of the nursing care given to

Able to assess and reassess the needs of the patient.
Completes nursing assessment within 24 hours of admission.
Able to communicate needs of the patients.
Conducts therapies in accordance with patient s diagnosis and

Completes proper documentation of progress notes and assessment
according to program procedures.
Completes individualized treatment plans for each patient.
An active member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
Serves as the primary nursing care coordinator for assigned

Performs treatment intervention following physician orders such as
medication administration and medical treatment orders.
Interprets the nursing and treatment needs of the patient to
non-professional staff members assigned to the patient.
Participates in individual, group, family psychotherapy, and

Enacts the counseling role of the nurse.
Documents continuous assessment, interventions and evaluations
relative to patient progress.
Attends patient staffing and assumes responsibility for
communication of treatment goals to pertinent staff members.
Models for other staff effective communication with families,
agencies and hospital personnel.
Assists in placing patients in seclusion or restraints and observes
Models for staff appropriate telephone etiquette and intervention
Provides psychiatric education to patient and family as needed.
Provides resources and support for patient prior to, during and
Acts as a liaison between patients, families and other healthcare
Coordinates treatment with other health and social agencies.
Actively involved in measuring patient performance and
communicating results and trends to supervisor.
Identifies areas needing improvement and utilizes the facility
performance improvement process. Actively participates in
department processes as required.
Evaluates the appropriateness and quality of nursing care in a
Monitors and enforces utilization or proper techniques and
procedures. Supervises unlicensed staff.
Assesses patient for fall risks and other risk factors.
Insures facility is safe and reports deficiencies to
Coordinates the function of the therapeutic environment.
Completes all required staff competencies per program
Attends in-services, seminars, etc. to promote learning.
Assesses the clinical performance of nursing staff under their
direction in collaboration with the head nurse.
Orients new employees.
Provides consultation services to nursing staff on other units
related to mental health and chemical dependency issues.
Trained in CQI + and follows procedures of CQI+.
Timely and accurate submission of CQI+ outcome data on a weekly
basis including responsiveness to weekly feedback.
Uses hygienic practices and teaches patient hygienic practices.
Performs other duties as required and assigned.
* Current RN licensure from the State of Oklahoma required.
* ADN required, BSN preferred
* Current BLS require, unless ACLS is obtained and maintained
* Crisis Prevention training (CPI) required within 6 months of
* 1-3 Experience as a Mental Health RN preferred.
* Must successfully complete the pre-employment assessment.
* Basic computer skills required.
