Start Date: 3/9/2026 About the Position A Registered Nurse (RN) –
Infection Prevention Specialist is responsible for overseeing
infection control practices within healthcare facilities, ensuring
patient and staff safety by preventing and minimizing the risk of
infections. This role involves developing, implementing, and
monitoring infection control programs, conducting surveillance,
educating staff, and ensuring adherence to infection control
standards and guidelines. The Infection Prevention Specialist
collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to maintain compliance
with regulatory bodies, address outbreaks, and promote best
practices in infection prevention across the healthcare setting.
\n\n Key Responsibilities : \n \n \n Infection Surveillance and
Reporting : \n \n Conduct regular surveillance of hospital-acquired
infections (HAIs) and other infectious diseases within the
healthcare facility.\n Monitor infection trends, identify
outbreaks, and investigate infection clusters.\n Collect, analyze,
and interpret infection data to track trends, inform
decision-making, and report findings to leadership and regulatory
bodies (e.g., CDC, state health departments).\n Prepare and submit
reports on infection control outcomes and performance to senior
management, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of infection
rates.\n \n\n \n Infection Prevention Program Development and
Implementation : \n \n Develop, implement, and update infection
prevention and control policies and procedures in line with
evidence-based practices and regulatory standards (e.g., CDC, WHO,
OSHA).\n Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure infection
control measures are integrated into clinical practice, patient
care protocols, and operational processes.\n Lead the development
of infection prevention initiatives and projects to enhance patient
safety and reduce infection risks.\n \n\n \n Staff Education and
Training : \n \n Provide ongoing education and training to clinical
and non-clinical staff on infection prevention strategies,
including hand hygiene, isolation precautions, personal protective
equipment (PPE), environmental cleaning, and proper sterilization
techniques.\n Develop educational materials, presentations, and
workshops for staff to ensure consistent understanding of infection
control guidelines.\n Conduct audits and assessments to evaluate
staff compliance with infection control protocols and provide
feedback or corrective action when necessary.\n \n\n \n Outbreak
Management and Response : \n \n Lead investigations of infection
outbreaks, implementing control measures to prevent further
transmission and mitigate risks to patients and staff.\n Work with
healthcare teams to develop and implement outbreak control
strategies, including patient isolation, staff training, and
increased surveillance.\n Coordinate with local and state health
authorities during outbreaks and ensure timely reporting of
suspected or confirmed infections.\n \n\n \n Consultation and
Collaboration : \n \n Provide expert consultation to healthcare
teams, leadership, and departments on infection prevention and
control measures.\n Work closely with multidisciplinary teams,
including infection control committees, nursing, housekeeping,
clinical staff, and administration, to promote a culture of safety
and continuous improvement in infection prevention practices.\n
Ensure that infection control practices are effectively integrated
into patient care processes, procedures, and discharge planning.\n
\n\n \n Compliance and Regulatory Oversight : \n \n Ensure
compliance with national, state, and local infection control
regulations and guidelines, including the Centers for Medicare &
Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission (TJC), and
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).\n Prepare for
and participate in regulatory inspections, audits, and
accreditation surveys related to infection control.\n Maintain
up-to-date knowledge of infection prevention standards and emerging
infectious diseases to ensure compliance with best practices.\n
\n\n \n Data Collection and Analysis : \n \n Collect, analyze, and
interpret data related to infection rates, including surgical site
infections (SSIs), urinary tract infections (UTIs),
ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), and Clostridium difficile
(C. diff).\n Use data analysis tools to identify patterns, assess
the effectiveness of infection prevention measures, and make
recommendations for quality improvement.\n Prepare and present
infection prevention performance reports to hospital committees,
leadership, and other stakeholders.\n \n\n \n Quality Improvement
Initiatives : \n \n Lead or participate in quality improvement
projects aimed at reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs)
and enhancing patient care.\n Collaborate with other departments
(e.g., housekeeping, environmental services, clinical teams) to
identify opportunities for improving infection control practices
across the facility.\n Monitor the effectiveness of infection
prevention programs, ensuring continuous improvement and adaptation
to evolving infection risks.\n \n\n
