Job Description:

Location ENID, OK 73701 US (Primary) Career Area Professional Category Other Job Description The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for the administration and direct application of speech/language pathology treatment modalities as prescribed by a referring physician. Evaluates, plans directs and treats all patients referred for speech/language pathology treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury. Assists patients to obtain maximum performance and function in society while learning to adapt and accommodate a routine life within the constraints of their disability. Demonstrates strong working knowledge and skill experience with a variety of diagnostic groups including, but not limited to, the following: neurological conditions including CVA, TBI, degenerative neurological diseases, SCI; generalized weakness as a result of medical or surgical conditions including DM, ESRD, amputation, COPD, CHF, and CABG. Demonstrates a working knowledge of normal growth and development, related behaviors, needs, comfort, and range of treatment appropriate to the age (adult, geriatric) and diagnosis of patient services to support the provision of an individualized interdisciplinary plan of care. Demonstrates knowledge of IRF-PAI )Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility-Patient Assessment Instrument) and the Care Tool and their application in payment system for CMS. Administers evaluation tools according to established protocols; utilizes non-standardized probes for additional assessment as warranted to establish an appropriate plan of care adapting the plan of care to the individualized needs/goals of the patient/caregiver. Demonstrates knowledge and administers Modified Barium Swallow evaluations and provides recommendations to physicians and nurses in verbal and written form. Assesses patient s pain using hospital approved measurement tools and adjusts treatment considering behavior, location, severity and frequency. Demonstrates the ability to provide the proper assistance, verbal/tactile/auditory cueing necessary for optimal performance and patient outcome. Effectively treats caseload with the ability to appropriately judge required level of assistance patient will need to achieve set goals with gender/age specific criteria in mind and choosing appropriate treatment method, i.e. individual and/or group sessions to best achieve discipline specific treatment goals. Demonstrates the ability to instruct patients and/or significant others in treatment procedures (swallowing and use of compensatory strategies and agents as needed), home programs, safety management, and special equipment using patient s preferred method of instruction (written, oral, auditory, combination) Demonstrates knowledge of management of patients with maladaptive behaviors. Goals are comprehensive, realistic and involve the patient and/or family and are individualized based on patient assessment. Consideration for age, growth, and development will be included. The record is complete, detailed and clearly relates patient level of function in quantifiable terms, treatment methods and strategies, patient response to treatment. Includes, but not limited to, daily, weekly, team notes, DC summary, education. Activities and documentation is completed in timely fashion according to policy. Daily billing completed, including accurate reflection of beginning and ending treatment times and calculation of therapy minutes in the medical record, in compliance with 3 hour rule with appropriate exceptions documented. Recommendations for referrals to other professionals/agencies are made based on plan of care. Discharge information including home exercise programs for patient is clear and written in layman s terms for patient/family to understand. Therapy boards and patient communication boards will be updated according to departmental protocol. Demonstrates ability to effectively review the patient s chart and communicate/collaborate with multidisciplinary team members regarding patient s condition. Communicates with patient/family regarding role of Speech Therapy, expectations of patient, findings of assessment/treatment and seeks input regarding goals of treatment. Attends weekly team conference and participates in the discussion with other team members in a constructive manner, supporting collaborative problem solving and interdisciplinary goal setting when needed and identifying progress and barriers. Conducts self with professionalism and maintains ethical standards in communication with professional staff, patient/family; and strives to attain further knowledge and will educate others in their field on newly learned skills Assists with training, supervision, and coordination of staff efforts with students and techs. Performs other duties as required and assigned Job Requirements Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology, CCC-SLP, or in the process of completing the Clinical Fellowship Year, CFY. Holds or eligible for Oklahoma State Licensure in Speech-Language Pathology. Master s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, or equivalent degree as designated by an accredited university. BLS required. First Aid certification preferred. A clinical internship in a hospital or rehabilitation setting during the master s degree program is recommended. Excellent written and verbal communication, experience performing modified barium swallow preferred. Must successfully complete the Pre-employment assessment. Basic computer skills required.
